ഗിറ്റാർ ഒരു സംഗീതോപകരണമാണ്. പല സംഗീതരൂപങ്ങളിലും ഗിറ്റാർ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. സാധാരണയായി 6 സ്ട്രിങുകളാണ് (കമ്പി) ഉള്ളതെങ്കിലും നാല്, ഏഴ്, എട്ട്, പത്ത്, പന്ത്രണ്ട് സ്ട്രിങ്ങുകളുള്ള ഗിറ്റാറുകളുമുണ്ട്. ബ്ലൂസ്, കണ്ട്രി, ഫ്ലമെങ്കോ, റോക്ക് സംഗീതങ്ങളിലും പോപ്പ് സംഗീതത്തിന്റെ പല രൂപങ്ങളിലും ഗിറ്റാർ ഒരു പ്രധാന ഉപകരണമാണ്. സൌവര ഗിത്താറുകളിൽ(അക്വാസ്റ്റിക് ഗിറ്റാറുകളിൽ) സ്ട്രിങ്ങുകളുടെ കമ്പനം മൂലം ശബ്ദം ഉണ്ടാവുകയും പൊള്ളയായ ശരീരം അത് നിയന്ത്രിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഇലക്ട്രിക് ഗിറ്റാറുകളിൽ വൈദ്യുത ആമ്പ്ലിഫയറുകൾ ശബ്ദത്തെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നു. 20-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലാണ് ഇലക്ട്രിക് ഗിറ്റാറുകൾ പ്രചാരത്തിൽ വന്നത്.
